Bazalgette Sewer History Tour

Bazalgette and London Sewer History Tour

London’s most famous sewer engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette (1819-1891) unwittingly banished cholera from the metropolis. Laurence leads a walking tour of locations that help to illustrate Bazalgette’s subterranean achievements and his other grand public works. Laurence also aims to talk about the life of this great Victorian, and set him in context with other sewer engineers, sanitary celebrities and the new Thames Tideway Tunnel under construction.

It is a double length tour taking in the  surface topography of the Northern Low Level Intercepting Sewer and then in east London part of the Northern Outfall Sewer. This is a surface tour on public routes with no access inside the sewer system.
